Working Towards The SDGs with the Movers Programme

What Exactly Are The SDGs?

The Sustainable Development Goals, also known as the SDGs, are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 as a call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people can live in peace and prosperity. These goals are part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which aims to provide a blueprint for a sustainable future for all. The SDGs cover a range of issues, including poverty, health, education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, decent work and economic growth, industry, innovation and infrastructure, reduced inequalities, sustainable cities and communities, responsible consumption and production, climate action, life below water, life on land, peace, justice and strong institutions, and partnerships for the goals. Achieving the SDGs will require collective action from governments, civil society, the private sector, and individuals, and will be essential to creating a sustainable future for all.

Youth Co:Lab And Their Impact:

Youth Co:Lab is a regional initiative in Asia and the Pacific, jointly implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Citi Foundation. The initiative aims to empower young people to lead social change and to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the region. In this blog, we will explore the Youth Co:Lab initiative and its impact on young people in the region.

Youth Co:Lab - The Movers Programme:

The Movers Programme is a regional initiative that aims to promote awareness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), develop entrepreneurial mindsets, and foster 21st-century skills among young people in the Asia-Pacific region. The program is driven by passionate volunteers who conduct localized training using a training-of-trainer approach. It collaborates with community partners to reach out to marginalized and disadvantaged youth, equipping them with skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, collaboration, communication, and creativity. The Movers Programme empowers young people to become agents of change and contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, making it a vital component of the Youth Co:Lab initiative.

The Skill-Ed Series:

The Movers Programme's Skill-Ed series has proven to be a valuable initiative, enabling young people to develop the skills and knowledge they need to become changemakers in their communities. The program has received positive feedback from participants, who have appreciated the interactive and engaging format of the training modules. Many participants have reported that they feel more confident and better equipped to tackle the challenges facing their communities after completing the training.

In addition to providing participants with essential skills, the Skill-Ed series is also creating a network of young changemakers who can collaborate and support each other in their efforts to create positive change. By bringing together like-minded individuals from diverse backgrounds, the program is creating a sense of community and a shared vision for a better future.

Looking ahead, the Movers Programme's Skill-Ed series has the potential to make a significant impact in the Asia-Pacific region and beyond. By equipping young people with the tools they need to create sustainable and equitable communities, the program is contributing to the achievement of the SDGs and promoting a more just and prosperous future for all.

Sustainability 101:

The core of this series were the SGDs and why they’re so important in order to develop a healthy lifestyle. We dedicated a day to each of the major goals and talked about it in great depth which inspired many of the participants. We also had a day where people could share their own stories of how working towards accomplishing the SDGs has impacted their lives. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals established by the United Nations to achieve a more sustainable and equitable future for all. These goals cover a wide range of issues, including poverty reduction, quality education, gender equality, climate action, life below water, and leadership, among others. These goals promote a healthy and sustainable lifestyle. By understanding the importance of these goals, we can take steps towards achieving them. This may involve making changes in our own lives, such as reducing our carbon footprint, supporting sustainable businesses, or advocating for gender equality and other important issues. It may also involve taking action in our communities, such as volunteering, raising awareness, or supporting local initiatives. By working together towards these goals, we can create a brighter future where everyone has access to quality education, equal opportunities, and a healthy, sustainable planet.
